The Met Office has indicated that the UK may experience cold weather and wintry showers towards the end of April. Weather forecasting maps now suggest that up to 38 cities across the country could see snowfall.
According to the GFS weather model, snow is expected to fall in the UK over a three-day period starting on April 28. The snowfall is predicted to commence in northern Scotland before moving southwards, possibly reaching London.
The weather maps show heavy snowfall in the north-east of Scotland on April 28, with lighter flurries in southern Scotland, the Pennines, and parts of Northern Ireland. Rain is forecasted in North Wales and on the east coast of England around the same time.
By April 29, snow is projected to fall across northern England, Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire, with additional snowfall expected in Scotland and Northern Ireland. A band of snow is then expected to move in from the west, bringing heavy snow to western England and as far south as Bristol.
Although the snow is expected to weaken as it crosses the UK, London may still see some snow on April 30. During this period, snow showers are anticipated in various parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England, potentially affecting a total of 38 cities.
The Met Office warns of wintry showers affecting parts of the UK later in April, with a brief cold spell in the forecast. The weather outlook for April 22 to May 1 suggests that while dry weather is expected for the most part, there may be exceptions with potential wintry showers in the north and east before milder conditions return.
