Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet access. Instead of traditional copper or fiber connections, the company’s latest Wi-Fi router operates through a 5G mobile signal, enabling file downloads and movie streaming.
This innovation caters to households without access to faster full-fiber connections and appeals to users seeking flexibility. The portable device is convenient for renters or students who frequently change residences.
Ease of installation is another benefit. Powered by Vodafone’s network, the router eliminates the need for technician visits or wall drilling. Users can simply plug it in, switch on, and immediately connect to the internet.
While the new system offers speeds up to 150Mbps, it falls short of full-fiber capabilities exceeding 900Mbps. Despite this, it suits activities like Netflix streaming, emailing, and remote work.
For comparison, downloading a full HD movie with the 5G router takes approximately 8 minutes, contrasting with just 40 seconds on a gigabit fiber connection.
To assist consumers in selecting the optimal connection, Vodafone is launching an integrated availability checker on Vodafone.co.uk. This tool helps users determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband delivers the fastest speeds in their location.
Previously, Vodafone provided web access via the GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by the new router.

Vodafone’s plans start at £21 monthly, while Three, now part of Vodafone, offers a similar service priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
