Scarlett Faulkner, a 29-year-old mother from Limerick, Ireland, has passed away in the hospital after her family made the difficult decision to withdraw life support, as confirmed by her grieving relatives. Scarlett had been in critical condition at Cork University Hospital for three weeks following severe injuries sustained in an assault on the R494 near Birdhill on March 21.
Charges have been filed against a woman and a 16-year-old girl in connection with the attack. The woman is facing multiple charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and burglary, while the teenager is charged with assaulting Scarlett causing serious harm.
Scarlett’s sister-in-law, Josephine Duffy, shared that the family had to endure a prolonged wait before deciding to turn off the life support machine. Eventually, the decision was made, and Scarlett passed away at around 4 pm on Sunday, with five family members by her side overnight.
Police authorities, Gardaí, confirmed Scarlett’s death on Monday evening and stated that investigations into the incident were ongoing. They emphasized that the assault took place on March 21, 2026, and the female victim succumbed to her injuries on April 13 at Cork University Hospital.
After the news broke that Scarlett’s life support would be terminated, her sister Joanne expressed her devastation, saying, “I’m at a loss for words. My heart is shattered. My beautiful baby sister.” Another family member wrote, “RIP Scarlett cousin, you will be missed,” in a tribute to her memory.
In a social media post, Scarlett’s cousin, Melissa McCarthy, bid farewell by saying, “Goodbye our girl, fly high, you’re with the angels now. Oh God, mind Aunty Mary and Banny, all your brothers and sisters, especially your little girl, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Fly high, you fought till the last.”
