Britain has finalized a monumental drone agreement with Ukraine to aid in repelling Vladimir Putin’s forces ahead of the upcoming summer combat season. Under this deal, a massive 120,000 drones, encompassing various functions such as surveillance, strike operations, and intelligence gathering, will be dispatched to Ukraine.
Russia has been experiencing significant losses in frontline battles, with daily casualties exceeding 1,000 troops, leading to recruitment challenges for the Kremlin. This recruitment shortfall has hindered their ability to replace soldiers lost in combat, especially due to drone strikes.
The agreement represents a substantial investment in British companies, stimulating growth and bolstering defense-related employment in the UK. The announcement coincides with Defence Secretary John Healey co-chairing a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Berlin.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated that the UK’s largest-ever drone package for Ukraine includes a variety of drones like long-range strike drones, intelligence and reconnaissance drones, logistics drones, and maritime capabilities, all of which have proven effective on Ukraine’s frontlines. Deliveries of these drones have already commenced this month.
Drones have played a critical role in Ukrainian counterattacks and defense against Russian assaults. Russia launched around 6,500 attack drones against Ukraine in March 2026, a significant increase compared to the previous month.
Healey participated in the 34th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Berlin alongside other officials. Most of the investment will benefit UK-based companies, fostering job creation while safeguarding Ukraine’s security.
The UK’s drone sector is rapidly evolving, supporting national security and European deterrence efforts while promoting skills and innovation across the UK. Defence Secretary John Healey MP emphasized the UK’s commitment to providing Ukraine with the necessary drone capabilities to defend against Russian aggression.
The new drone package is part of the UK’s broader military support for Ukraine this year, including a £3 billion commitment and ERA funding. Additionally, the UK will supply hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds and air defense missiles to Ukraine this year.
