Zanzibar Emerges as New Sun-Drenched Hotspot

Date:

A sun-drenched destination is being hailed as the ‘next Magaluf’ due to its affordable £1 beers and scorching 30C weather in May, along with pristine white sandy beaches.

For years, Magaluf has been a favorite among Brits who relish its beaches and vibrant nightlife. However, a new long-haul spot is gaining popularity, offering a fresh alternative for travelers.

Located just off the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar is an island paradise boasting breathtaking beaches and quaint towns. Renowned as one of the best-value sunny getaways globally, it provides an opportunity to bask in the sun without breaking the bank.

Recent statistics indicate a 4.9% increase in tourist arrivals to the island, making it an opportune time to explore before it becomes overly touristy. Many visitors opt to stay in Stone Town, the historical heart of the capital, known for its exquisite architecture and cultural attractions like the Old Fort and Sultan’s Palace Museum.

While not as lively as Magaluf, Stone Town offers beach parties and a few nightclubs. Nungwi in the north is gaining popularity among backpackers, featuring Full Moon Parties near accommodations and stunning beaches where turtles can be spotted swimming close by.

Zanzibar’s weather is a major draw for Brits, with an average of 12.06 hours of sunshine daily, even in winter. Temperatures can reach highs of 33C from January to April, making it an ideal destination for winter sun seekers.

The warm waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving, allowing visitors to explore vibrant coral reefs and possibly encounter dolphins in their natural habitat.

Despite being a longer flight away, there are affordable travel options available. Flights to Tanzania can be found from £261 one way in June with airlines like Kenya Airways or Turkish Airlines offering stopover routes via Nairobi or Istanbul, respectively.

Accommodation choices on the island cater to various budgets, including luxury properties at competitive prices. For instance, a week’s stay at the 5-star Sofia Sea View costs £371 for two in a junior suite in May, while the all-inclusive TUI BLUE Bahari Zanzibar offers a week’s stay for two at £1,157 and can be booked on platforms like Booking.com.
