“Trump Plans Massive 250-Foot Triumphal Arch in DC”

Date:

Donald Trump has revealed plans for a massive 250-foot triumphal arch to be constructed in Washington DC as a tribute to himself. The proposed monument would surpass the size of Washington DC’s Lincoln Memorial and, according to the President, outshine the renowned Arc de Triomphe. Official designs unveiled recently depict an expansive white arch embellished with gold leaf accents, featuring the inscription “One Nation Under God” in gold lettering at its peak.

The location earmarked for the structure is Memorial Circle, a roundabout near Arlington National Cemetery, situated across the Potomac River from the 99-foot-tall Lincoln Memorial. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the endeavor, portraying it as a commemoration of America’s upcoming 250th independence anniversary.

Leavitt stated, “President Trump and the Department of Interior will present plans for the United States Triumphal Arc, an architectural marvel to celebrate our history here in Washington DC.” She emphasized that the monumental arch, standing at 250 feet tall in honor of the nation’s 250 years, would serve as an enduring source of inspiration for future generations.

Highlighting the bipartisan nature of the project, Leavitt emphasized the importance of constructing beautiful structures that foster national pride and unity, appealing to Americans across all political affiliations for support. When questioned about the intended recipient of the monument, Trump unequivocally indicated himself as the inspiration.

The genesis of the arch can be traced back to Trump’s visit to Paris during his initial term, where he participated in an Armistice Day event beneath the Arc de Triomphe. The memory of this iconic French landmark left a lasting impression on him, prompting him to express his intent to surpass it with the proposed US triumphal arch in Washington DC.

While the concept initially began as a modest suggestion by architecture critic Catesby Leigh, advocating for a smaller arch in line with other major Western capitals, it has since evolved into a towering structure reaching 250 feet. This expansion has sparked dissent among classical architects, veterans’ groups, and early proponents of the idea, citing concerns about the arch’s potential impact on the solemnity of Arlington National Cemetery.

Formal approval is still pending before any construction can commence on the ambitious project.
