US doctor Mehmet Oz claimed that President Donald Trump believes diet soda can kill cancer cells in the body. Dr. Oz, who serves as Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, mentioned during a podcast with Donald Trump Jr that the president thinks consuming diet soda is beneficial because it can eliminate cancer cells, based on the idea that it kills grass.
Despite Trump’s assertions, there is no scientific backing to support the claim that diet soda has cancer-killing properties. This is not the first instance where Trump’s dietary habits have come under scrutiny by his close associates.
US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr criticized Trump’s eating habits, labeling them as the most “unhinged” within the administration. Kennedy expressed concerns about Trump’s fondness for fast food, particularly McDonald’s, candy, and Diet Coke. He highlighted that Trump’s consumption of these items raises questions about his health and energy levels.
Kennedy noted that Trump indulges in junk food mainly while traveling, trusting big corporations for his meals to prevent illness. On the contrary, when at Mar-a-Lago or the White House, Trump opts for healthier food choices.
In a separate incident in October 2025, Republican National Committee chair Joe Gruters revealed that Trump had created a customized McDonald’s super-burger during his 2024 campaign trail, combining a Filet-o-Fish, a Quarter Pounder, and a Big Mac. This excessive intake of processed foods has been associated with chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity, issues that Trump and Kennedy aim to combat through their “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.
