A 19-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being attacked by a family dog described as the “softest” by her father. The incident took place in Leaden Roding, Essex, where Jamie-Lea Biscoe was mauled to death by a seven-year-old blue merle lurcher named Shy.
Upon returning home, Jamie-Lea’s father, Jack Biscoe, discovered the devastating scene of his daughter collapsed with a neck bite from the dog. Despite efforts by police and emergency services, Jamie-Lea was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog, Shy, was later taken into custody by authorities.
Jack Biscoe shared that Shy, initially bought as a puppy, was his daughter’s beloved companion. He emphasized that the tragic event highlighted the unpredictability of dog behavior and cautioned against assuming dangerous traits based on breed. Jack expressed deep sorrow, stating, “My daughter was not killed by an XL Bully, she was killed by a genuine family dog.”
Describing the heartbreaking moment he found Jamie-Lea injured, Jack recounted his attempts to save her while being attacked by Shy, resulting in injuries including a part of his ear being bitten off. Following the incident, all three dogs in the household were seized, and Jack was arrested on suspicion of negligence related to the fatal dog attack.
Neighbors expressed shock and sympathy for the family, acknowledging the devastating impact of the tragedy. Essex Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper extended condolences to Jamie-Lea’s loved ones and assured ongoing efforts to determine the circumstances of the incident.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged respect for the privacy and grief of Jamie-Lea’s family and friends during this challenging period.
