Anthony Joshua’s driver faces charges of reckless driving following a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of two of the boxer’s friends. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver, was behind the wheel of a black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua, Latif Ayodele, and Sina Ghami when it collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The driver, who fled the scene, was later apprehended and taken to court, where he was granted bail.
The police have charged Mr. Kayode with multiple offenses, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid license. The court proceedings have been adjourned to a later date. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, has been discharged from the hospital and paid his respects at a funeral home for his departed friends.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash was caused by a tire blowout due to speeding. The truck involved was illegally parked at the time of the accident. The incident has deeply affected the boxing community, with tributes pouring in for the deceased individuals. Plans for Joshua’s future fights may be affected by the recent tragedy, as the focus shifts to supporting him during this difficult time.
