Wes Streeting has expressed concerns about Nigel Farage’s credibility regarding the NHS, accusing him of potentially deceiving the public once more. The Health Secretary cautioned that Reform poses a more significant threat than the eccentric Greens, emphasizing that Farage’s party represents a much more perilous and unsightly prospect compared to Labour’s traditional Tory adversaries.
Although Reform has assured that the NHS will remain universally accessible, Farage has previously hinted at the possibility of certain British households having to obtain health insurance to access NHS services under his leadership.
During a visit to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Streeting emphasized the vulnerability of individuals who cannot afford healthcare costs, envisioning a distressing scenario where patients are required to pay upfront before receiving medical treatment. He urged traditional Labour supporters considering voting for Reform to prioritize the protection of the NHS, citing Farage’s history of misleading the public.
Farage came under scrutiny after discussing the potential adoption of a French-style insurance healthcare system at Reform’s Welsh manifesto launch. He emphasized that such decisions would be made nationally, highlighting successful healthcare practices in specific English health trusts without significant budget increases.
