“Selena Gomez Reveals Vaping’s Negative Impact on Voice”

Date:

Selena Gomez discussed how vaping had a negative impact on her voice in a recent video shared on Sunday. The U.S. singer and actor, known also as the founder of Rare Beauty makeup line, revealed that her voice had been altered due to excessive nicotine vaping. In her now-deleted Instagram story, Gomez emphasized the challenges of quitting nicotine and advised against vaping, stating it was not worth the risk.

Although Gomez did not specify the duration of her vaping habit, she expressed determination to stay nicotine-free, acknowledging the difficulty of the process. She encouraged others facing similar struggles to persevere, highlighting the importance of overcoming such challenges.

The artist has been transparent about her health battles, including her diagnosis of Lupus in 2015, a condition that affects the immune system. Gomez suggested that her vocal cords may have been affected by her health issues, noting occasional swelling in her throat. Additionally, she underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 and disclosed her bipolar disorder diagnosis in her recent documentary.

While Gomez shared her personal experience with vaping, health experts caution against the broader risks associated with vaping beyond nicotine consumption. Dilini Vethanayagam, a medicine professor at the University of Alberta, highlighted the potential harm of various chemicals in vape smoke on the respiratory system, including the vocal cords. Health Canada has identified over 1,500 unique chemicals in vaping products, with ongoing studies investigating the long-term health implications, such as lung damage.

Vethanayagam emphasized the significance of public figures like Gomez raising awareness about vaping risks, underscoring the need for stricter regulations on vape products to address the growing health concerns. Despite previous government pledges to restrict vaping flavors, uncertainties remain regarding the timeline for implementation, prompting advocacy groups to engage with policymakers to advocate for tighter regulations to protect young individuals from the potential hazards of vaping.
