“Remains of Third Man Found in Ontario Rural Property”

Date:

Earlier this week, authorities confirmed the discovery of the remains of Lawrence Bertrim, marking the third man found on a rural property situated north of the tranquil town of Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. Mayor Shawn Pankow acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the news, highlighting the conflicting emotions that arise when hoping for the safe return of a missing individual like Bertrim, who vanished nearly four years ago, while also recognizing the importance of providing closure and dignity in the event of a tragic outcome.

The grim uncovering of the three men’s remains on a dense wooded 16-hectare property off Kelly Jordan Road in Montague, a township adjacent to Smiths Falls, has shocked the community. Robert Lambert’s remains, missing for an extended period, were discovered two weeks prior, followed by the recovery of Robbie Thomson’s remains nine months earlier. Charges have been laid in connection with Thomson’s death, with a fourth individual facing charges as an accessory to the crime. However, no suspects have been charged in the deaths of Bertrim and Lambert, with rewards of $50,000 being offered for any valuable information.

Despite the proximity of the men’s remains being found at the same location, authorities have not definitively linked their deaths. Law enforcement officials have urged the public to allow them the necessary space and time to conduct a thorough investigation, emphasizing the impact on the families of Bertrim and Lambert. Sergeant Erin Cranton of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), leading the investigations, emphasized the importance of respecting the grieving families and allowing the police to carry out their duties effectively.

The town of Smiths Falls, known for its economic ties to the Hershey’s chocolate factory and the cannabis industry, has been rattled by the recent developments at the Kelly Jordan Road property. Mayor Pankow and residents have expressed their unease at the unfolding situation, with one local resident describing the site as “quite the graveyard.” The community has been on edge since the disappearances of Bertrim and Thomson in 2022 and the subsequent disturbing discoveries.

As the investigations continue, authorities aim to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three men, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive inquiry to provide answers to the families and the community. Despite the challenges posed by the complex case, authorities remain committed to pursuing justice and unveiling the truth behind the tragic events.
