Four individuals lost their lives during a military operation in a Gaza City displacement camp on Tuesday, conducted by Israel to apprehend a senior Hamas figure. The operation resulted in the arrest of the Hamas official, identified as the head of the organization’s internal security service.
Following the raid, the camp suffered damage with tents and belongings burnt and scattered. The aftermath included a car wreckage that was visibly mangled and charred. According to medics, among the four fatalities were three children, with additional injuries reported from the military incursion. This incident marks at least the fifth in a series of attacks on the enclave in recent weeks, resulting in numerous casualties.
Residents of the camp, such as Abu Al Abd, expressed distress over the situation, particularly emphasizing the impact on children. The man recounted the horrifying experience of witnessing children being caught in the violence during the raid.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) justified the operation by citing recent escalated attacks by Hamas against Israeli civilians and troops. They emphasized the necessity of neutralizing the perceived threat posed by the targeted Hamas official to safeguard their interests.
The ongoing conflict has left many families devastated, with one resident, Faiza al-Bahtini, recounting the personal toll of being displaced multiple times due to previous attacks. The cycle of violence has taken a toll on the community, leading to continuous displacement and loss.
Despite a ceasefire in place since October 11, which initially curbed large-scale hostilities, sporadic Israeli strikes have persisted. Both sides have suffered casualties, with Hamas condemning the recent attack as a severe violation of civilian rights and accusing Israel of continuing its aggression against the Palestinian population.
Hamas denounced the attack as a deliberate act of violence against civilians, calling out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what they perceive as a policy of arrogance and defiance. The group urged international intervention to enforce the ceasefire agreement and prevent further violations.
