A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for throwing his girlfriend out of a fourth-floor window in a fit of jealousy and then falsely claiming to the police that she had jumped. The incident took place at a high-rise apartment in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, West Midlands, where Jordan Herring, 22, tossed Bobbie Goodman, 18, from the building, as captured on CCTV footage on the night of November 12, 2022.
Bobbie sustained severe injuries including a collapsed lung, shattered pelvis, broken ribs, and a fractured spine, requiring extensive medical treatment. Herring’s violent outburst was triggered by his suspicion of Bobbie’s communications with other men on Snapchat while under the influence of cannabis.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, Bobbie survived and recounted the events to the authorities, detailing how Herring had physically abused her before the incident and threatened her life before pushing her out of the window. Herring was observed nonchalantly strolling down the stairs after the incident, later picking her up from the ground, wrapping her in a blanket, and carrying her back inside.
Herring, who had a history of violent behavior and had previously been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and coercive behavior towards Bobbie, was found guilty in court. The judge emphasized Herring’s dangerous nature and controlling behavior, noting his escalating abuse towards Bobbie, leading to the tragic event.
In a statement, Bobbie expressed the profound impact of the incident on her life, highlighting the physical and emotional trauma she endured. Herring’s defense attorney cited his troubled upbringing and struggles with anger and substance abuse as contributing factors to his actions.
The court’s sentencing reflected the severity of the crime, with Herring being labeled a dangerous offender and having his license period extended. The judge condemned Herring’s actions and manipulation, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in cases of domestic violence.
