Donald Trump is attempting to claim credit for progress in resolving tensions with Iran. This move is likened to an arsonist making way for a fire engine after setting a building ablaze and then expecting praise for heroism. Recent developments saw Iran announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during the Lebanon ceasefire. The possibility of a deal between the US and Iran before the ceasefire concludes remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the temporary halt in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah signifies a positive step.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump shared Iran’s decision to open the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, mistakenly referring to it as the “Strait of Iran.” However, he clarified that the US would maintain a blockade on Iran until their transaction negotiations are finalized. Trump emphasized the need for maximalist concessions from Iran regarding their nuclear program before considering lifting the blockade.
Amidst these developments, Trump criticized NATO for offering assistance post the Strait of Hormuz resolution, dismissing their involvement. Meanwhile, Britain and France announced plans for a “peaceful mission” to secure the Strait. Trump also took aim at media outlets like The New York Times and CNN for not acknowledging his role in current events, urging them to recognize his efforts.
During a recent speech in Las Vegas, Trump reiterated his belief that America was in a dire state under Biden, failing to update the timeframe of his claims accurately. Moreover, he made false statements about a photo op incident involving himself being depicted as a doctor, showcasing a mix-up in his narrative.
Trump further boasted about tax cuts and questioned the term “corner store” during his Vegas appearance. The event was marked by delays, leading the audience to engage in a singalong of the Christian hymn “How Great Thou Art” to pass the time.
