“Iran Set to Execute First Female Protester in Tehran”

Date:

The Iranian regime is preparing to carry out the executions of four protesters, with one of them being a woman believed to be the first female detainee to face death in Tehran.

Following the January protests where citizens in various cities protested against the oppressive government, Iran has been actively targeting individuals involved in the demonstrations. The Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced four people, including Bita Hemmati, her husband Mohammadreza Majidi-Asl, Behrouz Zamaninejad, and Kourosh Zamaninejad, who lived in the same building as the couple, to death for their alleged involvement in the mass uprising.

The charges against them include “operational action for the hostile government of the United States and hostile groups” as reported by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). Additionally, they were accused of “assembly and collusion against national security” and have also been handed five-year prison sentences with all their assets seized.

According to HRANA, a source close to the families of the detainees disclosed that the group was interconnected through living arrangements. Notorious Iranian judge Iman Afshari claimed that the accused individuals were involved in injuring security forces and using explosive materials and unspecified weapons during the January protests.

Human rights organizations have expressed concerns about the fairness of the trials and the possibility of forced confessions. The Center for Human Rights in Iran, based in New York, highlighted the lack of due process and reliance on coerced confessions as evidence in the sentencing of individuals involved in the 2026 protests.

The protests in Iran began on December 28, 2025, spreading rapidly across the country. The government imposed an internet blackout during that period, amidst reports of a significant number of casualties as authorities sought to quell the unrest.
