Picture yourself at a Harry Styles concert, enjoying the music, when suddenly, the crowd erupts into a chorus of lyrics from a different artist’s song. Harry Styles is currently performing a 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Amid the usual fan sing-alongs, a new trend has emerged where fans chant the lyrics of 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Telephone Busy” during the instrumental break of Styles’ song “Ready, Steady, Go,” gaining momentum with each performance.
This trend originated from a fan remix on TikTok created by user @millsberry75 in March. The remix caught the attention of 5 Seconds of Summer, who incorporated it into a DJ set at Lollapalooza in August. Fans have now taken this trend to Styles’ live shows, with videos on social media capturing the growing excitement. What started as a faint chant in earlier performances has now evolved into a thunderous roar in recent shows.
The connection between One Direction, where Harry Styles first gained fame, and 5 Seconds of Summer adds to the enthusiasm. Initially, 5SOS gained recognition when One Direction member Louis Tomlinson shared their music online, leading to collaborations on tours and a shared fanbase.
This spontaneous trend showcases the power of online communities translating into real-life phenomena, as fans unite over shared music interests. 5 Seconds of Summer has acknowledged and appreciated the fan excitement, while Harry Styles has yet to comment directly. With numerous upcoming shows, including at Madison Square Garden and Rogers Stadium, the chant could reach new heights of fervor, creating an electrifying atmosphere for concertgoers to experience.
