“British Tourists Alerted to Airport Adjustments for May Holidays”

Date:

British tourists planning to travel abroad during the upcoming May half-term holiday are being advised to anticipate airport adjustments. With a surge in the number of travelers expected to embark on sunny vacations, airports are projected to experience heightened activity levels. Airlines are recommending passengers to arrive at the airport well in advance to facilitate the check-in process for luggage, pass through security procedures, and locate their departure gates.

The recent implementation of the European Union’s (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) has led to extended queues at border controls, resulting in delays and instances of missed flights at various European and UK airports. Additionally, TUI has cautioned holidaymakers about revised airport security protocols at select UK airports.

In a recent travel advisory issued to passengers, TUI highlighted the ongoing installation of new scanning equipment at UK airports to adhere to evolving security regulations. However, travelers are urged to adhere to existing guidelines, as not all airports have completed the transition, and destination airports may still enforce the previous restrictions upon return flights.

TUI has provided details on several major UK airports that have already implemented security modifications, including Aberdeen, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, London Southend, and London City. Customers are encouraged to refer to TUI’s website’s airport security page or the specific information page of their departure airport for comprehensive guidance, as security measures can differ between airports, such as the 100ml liquid restriction.

Earlier this year, several airports, including Belfast International, Belfast City, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, and London Heathrow, abolished the 100ml liquid rule, allowing travelers to carry larger quantities through security.

Following the launch of the EU’s EES earlier in the month, additional changes have been implemented for British travelers heading overseas. To aid customers in preparing for their journeys and avoiding disruptions, TUI has issued a travel alert, advising passengers to anticipate potentially longer queues at certain airports, especially during peak travel periods.

TUI is striving to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers and recommends allowing extra time for border control processes. Passengers are advised to keep essential medications in their carry-on bags, proceed directly to passport control after dropping off luggage when exiting the EU, and consider carrying additional water for comfort during their travels.
