Donald Trump reiterated his support for Israel in a message posted on the Truth Social platform over the weekend, following reports of unease from Benjamin Netanyahu over a previous statement made by Trump.
In his message around 9pm ET, the former US president praised Israel as a valuable ally of Washington while criticizing European nations for not participating in the conflict with Iran.
Earlier accounts depicted Netanyahu as being surprised by Trump’s assertion that Israel was not allowed to conduct air strikes in Lebanon. Sources indicated that Netanyahu was personally taken aback and concerned upon learning of the message from his aides.
Trump’s recent statement on Friday declared, “Israel will no longer bomb Lebanon. They are prohibited from doing so by the U.S.A. Enough is enough!!!” according to reports from the Mirror US.
In a subsequent message, Trump expressed unwavering support for Israel, emphasizing its loyalty, courage, and strategic prowess in relation to the United States.
The statement comes amid the announcement of a 10-day truce between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon, leading to the reopening of the strait and a subsequent drop in oil prices.
Despite this development, Trump affirmed that the US blockade of Iran’s ports will continue until a deal is reached between Tehran and the United States. The blockade was imposed following unsuccessful talks between the two countries in Pakistan.
US Central Command reported on Saturday that 23 ships had been turned back to Iran since the blockade commenced on Monday.
