“Warning: AI Evolution Poses Existential Threat”

In a recent development, an alarming alert issued by a departing researcher at Anthropic suggested that by the decade’s end, artificial intelligence (AI) could potentially pose a threat to humanity, sparking widespread concern. The cautionary note has prompted discussions among industry experts regarding the perceived extreme risk associated with AI and how its swift evolution, exemplified by incidents like the Hugging Face cyberattack in July, could lead to unforeseen consequences beyond human control and comprehension.

Mark Daley, the chief AI officer at Western University in London, drew a comparison between AI and humans by likening the scenario to a human interacting with an ant, emphasizing the challenge of understanding and controlling a system that surpasses human intelligence levels.
