After over ten years of conducting interviews and sharing meals with celebrities while enjoying fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube show called “Chicken Shop Date,” has announced the closure of her show. In an Instagram post, Dimoldenberg expressed gratitude to her audience for following her journey and finding joy in the episodes. She mentioned that while she initially thought the show would be a permanent part of her life, she now feels it’s time to embark on a new adventure.
Dimoldenberg launched the show 12 years ago, initially focusing on interviewing musicians in the UK’s underground rap scene. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel. “Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on casual “dates” with celebrities at fried chicken shops in London, where she asks a mix of flirty, humorous, and sometimes awkward questions, creating a unique and engaging atmosphere.
The show’s format often leads to playful banter reminiscent of a first date rather than a traditional talk show interview. Some interactions, like the one with Andrew Garfield in 2024, even featured moments that appeared to be genuine flirting. Dimoldenberg’s interviews also include notable Canadians such as Ryan Reynolds, where she corrected him on his wife’s character’s name in “Gossip Girl.”
Despite the success of “Chicken Shop Date,” Dimoldenberg has pursued other opportunities, such as covering the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed Hudson Williams, another Canadian. While her next steps remain undisclosed, Dimoldenberg is set to develop a young adult drama series for the BBC. She hinted at a few final dates before bidding farewell to the show in her Instagram farewell message.
