Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to launch on May 18, 2027. This new novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ont., the familiar backdrop of her earlier works “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and the town where she grew up.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared that she acquired a lakeside cottage near Barry’s Bay before commencing work on the book. This purchase fulfilled her long-standing aspiration following the sale of her family’s lakefront residence.
The central character of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, mirrors Fortune’s dream of owning property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, connected to Charlie and Sam from the previous Barry’s Bay stories, returns to her childhood town with the intention of purchasing her own place. However, her plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a grand residence by a new owner.
While details beyond this premise remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that a hesitant romance will unfold against the picturesque lakeside backdrop. Carley Fortune, based in Toronto, boasts a background in writing and journalism, having edited for prominent publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier literary works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable contender on Canada Reads in 2024, advocated by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel featured on the program. Furthermore, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” recently renewed for a second season based on “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
