“Tim Peake Watches Legendary Spitfire’s Final Flight”

Date:

Tim Peake observes as legendary Spitfire concludes its 90th-anniversary flight celebration.

The British astronaut witnessed the final flight of the commemorative Spitfire90 tour. From aboard a WWII-era C-47 Dakota, the former Army Air Corps officer had a front-row view as the iconic fighter jet flew from Exeter to Southampton on Friday.

This historical event, captured in our gallery, went beyond being just a flypast. It served as a poignant homage to the Spitfire’s crucial role in the nation’s defense and a tribute to the illustrious history of the RAF.

The final flight, painted in the original colors of the prototype K5054, marked the 90th milestone of the iconic aircraft. This significant occasion not only honored the legacy of the Spitfire but also raised over £100k for RAF charities. The funds will support the welfare of personnel, veterans, and their families, as well as provide aviation opportunities for disabled individuals.

During the flight from Exeter to Southampton, Tim Peake peered out from the C-47 Dakota, embracing the sight of the Spitfire passing by. His presence at the commemorative event added to the significance of the final flights celebrating this momentous occasion.
