“Tennis Star Sinner Considers Skipping US Open Mixed Doubles”

Date:

Jannik Sinner is reportedly contemplating skipping the US Open’s recently introduced mixed doubles competition due to a disagreement over prize money. The tournament revamped the format last season, with Sinner initially slated to team up with Katerina Siniakova before withdrawing due to illness.

During the event, Carlos Alcaraz partnered with British No. 1 Emma Raducanu, while Novak Djokovic paired with Olga Danilovic, ahead of the singles matches. The eventual champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, received a $1 million prize. However, there are reports, as per The Times, that players like Sinner are considering boycotting the event, demanding a larger prize pool and enhanced player welfare standards.

This potential boycott is part of a broader effort by players to secure increased prize money at Grand Slam tournaments. Notably, some players limited their pre-tournament media obligations to 15 minutes during the recent French Open protest.

In other news, Wimbledon disclosed a £10.7 million boost in this year’s prize money fund. The winner is set to take home £3.6 million, while first-round losers are guaranteed £80,000. The overall prize pool has surged by 25% compared to the previous year, yet players are advocating for a share of 22% of the total revenue, a target that remains unmet despite the rise.

Deborah Jevans, Chair of the All England Club, emphasized support for the players’ cause, highlighting the club’s reinvestment into the sport. The dialogue with player representative Larry Scott continues, aiming to convey the importance of sustaining the sport’s future by reinvesting in it.

Looking ahead, Wimbledon 2026 is on the horizon, with tickets available for purchase, including VIP access.
