“Amazon Kindle Users Face Access Deadline: May 20, 2026”

Date:

Amazon has issued a final warning to Kindle users regarding potential access restrictions to new books on older models such as Kindle 5 and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Gen. The deadline for this block is now just 24 hours away, set for May 20, 2026.

Users with affected devices have been provided with a list of models that will no longer have access to the book store. The impacted devices include the Kindle 1st Generation (2007), Kindle DX and DX Graphite (2009 and 2010), Kindle Keyboard (2010), Kindle 4 (2011), Kindle Touch (2011), Kindle 5 (2012), and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation (2012).

Existing Kindle owners need not worry about losing access to their current libraries, as their purchased books will remain accessible. However, after the approaching deadline, these Kindles will essentially become read-only devices.

Amazon stated, “Starting May 20, 2026, customers using Kindle and Kindle Fire devices from 2012 and earlier will no longer be able to purchase, borrow, or download new content via the Kindle Store.” These models have been supported for up to 18 years, but due to technological advancements, they will no longer receive future support.

To ease the transition for affected users, Amazon is offering 20 percent discounts on selected new Kindle models and a £15 eBook credit. Customers can explore a variety of new Kindle options, including standard models and Colorsoft devices with color screens. Additionally, those seeking enhanced features can consider the Scribe range, which includes a digital pen for note-taking and document annotations.
