Neil Robertson Faces Fine for Premature Frame Concession

Date:

Neil Robertson is set to face a hefty four-figure fine for conceding a frame prematurely during his World Snooker Championship first-round match against Pang Junxu. The Australian, a former Crucible victor in 2010, mistakenly ended the second frame early due to an error in his calculations.

Despite having the opportunity to win the frame without needing snookers, Robertson conceded while trailing by 47 points with three reds still on the table. This miscalculation led to a warning from the referee and a £2,000 fine due to previous infractions earlier in the season. Another mistake could result in a £10,000 penalty for Robertson.

Referee Terry Camilleri issued the warning to Robertson, who initially appeared confused before realizing his error. Commentators quickly pointed out the error in Robertson’s decision-making, with Ken Doherty remarking on the unusual nature of the situation.

Following his blunder, Robertson managed to secure a 10-6 victory over Pang Junxu and advance to the quarter-finals, where he will face John Higgins. In a post-match interview, Robertson expressed his preference for playing against Higgins rather than Ronnie O’Sullivan, criticizing O’Sullivan’s use of chalk on the table.

Robertson’s comments on O’Sullivan’s chalk usage sparked controversy, with the Australian calling for a ban on the specific chalk due to its impact on the game. Despite the distraction caused by the chalk debate, Robertson remains focused on his tournament aspirations and looks forward to his upcoming match against Higgins.
