“Ultra-Marathon Runner David Parrish Dies on Cape Wrath Trail”

Date:

An accomplished ultra-marathon runner met a tragic end while taking on a challenging 234-mile endeavor in the Highlands. David Parrish, aged 35, was discovered deceased in a remote mountainous area of Kintail late on Saturday evening. He was aiming to set a new record for the fastest male completion of the Cape Wrath trail.

Initially planning to tackle the trail over the Easter weekend, David postponed his attempt due to unfavorable weather conditions before resuming the challenge last weekend. He had dedicated his journey to his late friend Luke, who lost his life during a mountain run 11 years ago.

Following his passing, heartfelt tributes flooded in online, with one friend expressing, “David not only leaves behind an incredible legacy of accomplishments but also a memory of carrying immense strength with grace. He will be deeply missed. RIP.”

Another individual remarked, “A truly exceptional individual with a remarkably positive perspective on life. You will be greatly missed.” A different friend added, “It was a privilege to have known you and shared moments on the trails. You were always kind, gracious, and humorous. Your presence will be missed by all.”

David had embarked on the trail to raise funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue in memory of his late friend Luke Ireland, who tragically passed away while running in the mountains around Glen Clova. Previously triumphing in the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023 with the second fastest time recorded, David had only been competitively running for a few years. The trail, renowned as one of the UK’s most demanding routes, commences in Fort William, leading participants through Scotland’s breathtaking landscapes like Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt, and Sutherland.

Photographed during the 2023 Cape Wrath event by No Limits Photography, David was remembered fondly by the company owners, Harriet D’Alessio and Christiaan Le Roux, who described him as a joyful and inspiring ultra marathon athlete.

An active member of the Dumfries Running Club and the club champion in 2022, David, a former Royal Marine, transitioned to competitive running after his military service. Finding solace in running as a means of decompressing from the rigors of infantry life, David’s dedication to the sport was evident in his achievements. Police Scotland is yet to provide a statement on the incident.
