President Donald Trump has praised King Charles once again and affirmed that his strained relationship with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will not affect the monarch’s upcoming US state visit. Trump has criticized the Prime Minister for decisions related to the North Sea drilling and immigration policies, hinting at potential changes to the UK-US trade deal. King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to visit the US from April 27 to 30, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence. Trump commended Charles as a “great gentleman” and downplayed any impact of his disagreements with Sir Keir on the royal visit.
During the historic trip, the royals will participate in various events, including a traditional American Block Party in Virginia. They will be welcomed in Washington by President Trump and the First Lady for tea, a Garden Party, and a formal ceremony at the White House. King Charles is scheduled to address Congress, marking a significant moment in US-UK relations. Additionally, the royals will pay respects at the 9/11 memorial in New York and engage in activities in Virginia.
Following the US visit, Queen Camilla will return to the UK while King Charles will travel to Bermuda, where he will explore the island’s history, including its ties to the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The King will also meet with representatives from the UK Space Agency to discuss plans for a new telescope site in Bermuda.
