Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed optimism about the impact these signings will have on the team’s playoff aspirations. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various top leagues around the world, which includes the National Women’s Soccer League, Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She is known for her composure and leadership qualities on the field.
On the other hand, Hansen, 26, is excited to return home to Burnaby, B.C., and play in front of her local crowd. Her eagerness to contribute to the team’s defensive setup and make a significant impact was highlighted by the coaching staff. This recruitment drive follows the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a career in law.
In another development, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. The Rise, currently sitting five points behind Halifax in the playoff race, are determined to secure a postseason berth. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s collective goal of returning to the playoffs and showcasing their competitive spirit until the end of the season.
