Tyler Mislawchuk Claims Bronze at World Triathlon Championship

Date:

Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk secured a bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series event held in Weihai, China, on Saturday. The 32-year-old athlete, hailing from Oak Bluff, Manitoba, completed the race in one hour, 41 minutes, and 25 seconds. Switzerland’s Max Studer clinched the gold with a time of 1:41:08, while Spain’s David Campero Del Campo finished just seven seconds ahead of Mislawchuk to claim the silver medal.

Mislawchuk started with a strong 1.5-kilometre swim, finishing in 18 minutes and 39 seconds. He then tackled the 38.6-kilometre bike course in 51 minutes and 53 seconds before completing the final 10-kilometre run in 29 minutes and 35 seconds. Expressing his excitement, Mislawchuk stated, “It’s been seven years of hard work and close calls, but nothing beats standing on the WTCS podium competing against the world’s best athletes. I seized an opportunity today and made my move three kilometres into the run. Throughout the last five kilometres, I kept reminding myself that this is what I train for every day. It’s a great feeling to perform at the highest level.”

Unfortunately, fellow Canadian Liam Donnelly did not finish the race. In the women’s competition, Canada’s Desirae Ridenour achieved an eighth-place finish, matching her career-best performance for the second consecutive season. Ridenour, a 26-year-old from Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, completed all three segments of the race in a total time of 1:50:58. France’s Cassandre Beaugrand secured the gold medal with a time of 1:49:20, followed by Beth Potter from Great Britain in second place at 1:49:26, and Germany’s Lisa Tertsch in third with a time of 1:49:44.

Emy Legault from L’Île Perrot, Quebec, finished in 30th place with a time of 1:55:54 in the event.
