A leading European air carrier serving the United Kingdom has decided to cancel flights to 18 destinations starting next month. Turkish Airlines has revealed its plan to suspend 18 international routes spanning Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East, impacting travel plans from May to June 2026.
The adjustments to Turkish Airlines’ 2026 summer schedule will affect flights from its primary hub at Istanbul Airport (IST), a popular destination for British holidaymakers. The airline is well-known among Brits for offering diverse flight options to major UK airports like London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, as well as Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.
This strategic review by the airline involves suspending routes witnessing decreased demand, especially for lesser-known locations. The affected destinations include Juba, Kinshasa, Luanda, Lusaka, Aqaba, Billund, Bissau, Ferghana, Freetown, Havana, Hurghada, Kirkuk, Leipzig/Halle, Libreville, Monrovia, Najaf, Pointe Noire, and Turkistan.
While these routes will be on hold between May and June 2026, some may not resume until late October 2026 or even as late as March the following year. Despite these changes, travelers with plans to visit Istanbul need not worry as the airline prioritizes high-demand routes.
The suspension of these 18 lesser-known destinations could have a significant impact on tourism in those countries and limit options for travelers seeking new experiences. Additionally, due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Turkish Airlines will continue to suspend routes to various Iranian cities like Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Tabriz until the end of October 2026.
In a recent development, the airline extended its services to London Stansted, becoming its third London gateway earlier this year. This expansion of the UK network allows British travelers access to over 350 destinations in 133 countries, with an expected weekly flight schedule of 168 during the summer season.
Turkish Airlines’ Vice President Sales (Middle and Northern Europe), Fuat Fırat, expressed satisfaction with the addition of London Stansted flights, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to the UK market and its contribution to regional connectivity and tourism.
