Donald Trump is exploring ways to take action against NATO allies who have not supported his conflict with Iran.
The US President is said to be creating a list categorizing NATO countries based on their involvement in the US-Israel conflict with Tehran.
A joint operation named ‘Operation Epic Fury’ was launched by the US and Israel, triggering widespread conflict in the Middle East.
Despite the conflict, NATO allies like the UK and France have refrained from direct involvement, advocating for peace due to global oil and gas shortages caused by the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
According to Politico, US officials have compiled a blueprint detailing NATO members’ contributions and placing countries into different tiers.
A diplomat mentioned that the White House list seems to divide countries into “naughty and nice,” but specific details are currently undisclosed.
One European official expressed concerns about the lack of concrete ideas for punishing uncooperative allies, suggesting that moving troops would primarily impact the US.
Trump has been vocal about consequences for allies not complying with his demands, even hinting at a complete withdrawal from the alliance.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly emphasized the US’s expectation for reciprocity from allies, particularly during Operation Epic Fury.
The status of countries on the ‘nice’ list remains uncertain, but Romania and Poland could be favored for their support, with Poland bearing most expenses for hosting American troops and Romania facilitating US military operations against Iran.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously indicated that allies like Israel, South Korea, Poland, Germany, and the Baltics, who actively contribute to collective defense, will receive special treatment.
