“Tragic Loss: Mother Waiting 5 Years for Kidney Donor Passes Away”

Date:

A brave mother who had been waiting for more than five years for a kidney donor has sadly passed away. Claire Boland, a resident of Stockport in Greater Manchester, experienced a severe brain bleed and succumbed to her condition on April 4. Last year, she expressed despair over the challenges of finding a suitable kidney match due to her rare blood type, which gave her slim odds of success.

Despite efforts from friends, family, and loved ones to be tested as potential donors, no one proved to be compatible with Claire. Tragically, she suffered a brain bleed while out at a bingo event with her mother and best friend. The connection between the brain bleed and her previous health issues remains unconfirmed.

Claire is survived by her husband Damien, daughters Ileana (two years old) and Elodie (13 years old), and extended family members. Her journey with health challenges began at a young age when she was diagnosed with type one diabetes at eight years old. Approximately seven years ago, she developed end-stage kidney failure, necessitating intensive treatments like haemodialysis, iron transfusions, and management of high blood pressure on top of her diabetes.

In a public plea for a donor five months ago, Claire revealed the mental and physical toll her health struggles had taken on her daily life. Despite her efforts, a suitable donor was never found. Claire’s mother, Deborah Kershaw, recounted the sudden onset of Claire’s brain bleed during a casual bingo outing and the subsequent medical emergency that led to her passing.

Following a scan that revealed the extent of the brain bleed, doctors determined that intervention was not possible due to the location and severity of the bleeding. Despite the medical team’s efforts to stabilize her, Claire’s condition deteriorated, and she passed away on April 4 after being taken off life support.

Deborah fondly remembered Claire as a resilient and selfless individual who always put her family first. A GoFundMe page has been set up by the family to cover funeral expenses and provide support to Damien and the children. Those who wish to contribute can do so by following the provided link.

The family is deeply devastated by Claire’s passing and is rallying together to support Damien and the children during this difficult time. They emphasize the importance of coming together to offer assistance and comfort to the grieving family.
