Queen to Meet Domestic Abuse Survivors on US Tour

Date:

The Queen is set to meet survivors of domestic abuse during the upcoming US tour, while avoiding encounters with victims of Jeffrey Epstein. Despite calls for the royals to engage with Epstein’s victims, they have been cautioned against it due to ongoing police investigations.

Former prince Andrew has faced pressure to cooperate with US investigators examining Epstein’s crimes. He and Sarah Ferguson were mentioned in documents released by the US State Department this year related to the late financier.

Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna, a co-sponsor of a law that led to the release of Epstein files, urged the King to privately meet victims to understand how powerful individuals and institutions failed them directly.

Both the King and Queen have expressed their sympathies towards abuse victims. The Queen has a history of supporting survivors, as showcased in a 2004 documentary for ITV.

Following Andrew’s removal of titles, he was arrested in February for alleged misconduct in a public office, linked to sharing sensitive information with Epstein.

Buckingham Palace stated that the suggested meeting with Epstein victims would not be feasible during the State Visit. They emphasized the potential negative impact on ongoing investigations and the pursuit of justice for survivors.

The royal visit aims to strengthen US-UK relations and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Despite criticism of the visit amid global tensions, President Trump eagerly anticipates hosting King Charles.

Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey called for the cancellation of the state visit due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. In response, Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of addressing differences respectfully within alliances.

The palace emphasized the strategic importance of State Visits for alliance-building even in challenging times. The Foreign Office highlighted the enduring value of the US-UK relationship despite disagreements.

The trip is expected to promote partnership and commemorate shared history, with events planned to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The royals will engage with American communities during the visit, including attending a traditional Block Party.

The itinerary includes meetings with President Trump, addressing Congress, visiting the 9/11 memorial in New York, and engaging with locals in Virginia. After the US visit, the Queen will return to the UK, while the King will travel to Bermuda for his first official visit as Sovereign.

During the Bermuda trip, the King will explore the island’s history, particularly its connections to the Transatlantic Slave Trade. He will also discuss plans with the UK Space Agency for a new telescope site in Bermuda to enhance global space sustainability efforts.
