“Time Out Unveils Top 51 Stunning Global Destinations”

Date:

The globe is filled with incredible destinations waiting to be explored, and singling out the most breathtaking ones is no easy task. However, Time Out has risen to the challenge by unveiling a list of the 51 most stunning places worldwide, encompassing a variety of landscapes from lakes and beaches to National Parks, libraries, vineyards, and historic towns. Topping the list is a mesmerizing mountain range that offers exceptional hiking opportunities and is just a short two-hour flight away from the UK.

Situated in Spain, the Picos de Europa is a remarkable limestone mountain range reaching a height of 2,650 meters, located around 12 miles from the coast. The mountains rise sharply, creating deep gorges to explore, as reported by Express.

One of the most popular trails in Spain, the Cares Trail, winds through a canyon, passing by rugged peaks and cascading waterfalls. Spanning a total of 13 miles, this trail is challenging and not recommended for beginners, but its gradual slopes make it manageable for experienced hikers. Alternatively, visitors can opt for the Fuente Dé cable car, providing a quick ascent up the mountainside for a relaxing experience with panoramic views.

Upon reaching the summit, additional hiking paths await, including steep climbs offering breathtaking vistas. The Picos de Europa is part of the larger Picos de Europa National Park, which includes the picturesque Lakes of Covadonga, surrounded by peaks and greenery reminiscent of landscapes in Scotland or the Lake District.

The national park is teeming with wildlife, from brown bears and wolves to vultures and eagles, while encounters with mountain goats and colorful butterflies are common in the limestone terrain. Nearby towns like the medieval Potes, characterized by ancient stone and timbered buildings and charming cobblestone streets, offer a rustic atmosphere for exploration.

Arenas de Cabrales, located on the edge of the park, is a popular accommodation choice known for its Cabrales cheese production and array of renowned restaurants serving Northern Spanish cuisine. Expect hearty and rustic dishes like bean stews and grilled meats made from locally sourced ingredients.

The Picos de Europa is conveniently located just under two hours from Santander Airport, with airlines such as Ryanair offering year-round flights from Edinburgh and London-Stansted, and seasonal flights from Birmingham and Manchester. Flight prices start from as low as £15 one-way, with a travel time of 2 hours from the UK.
