Teen golfer Anna Huang makes history with LET wins

Date:

Teen golfer Anna Huang’s career took a significant turn at last year’s CPKC Women’s Open in Mississauga, Ontario. Huang, then 16, struggled with her game, missing several cuts in a row. However, after missing the cut, she dedicated time to improving her putting with coach Sean Burke, which led to a positive impact on her game. Subsequently, she went on to win back-to-back tournaments on the Ladies European Tour.

Huang’s victory at the PIF London Championship in August made headlines in the women’s golf world. At just 17 years and 9 months old, she became the youngest player to win four LET titles, surpassing the previous record held by Lydia Ko. Huang’s confidence and experience have grown since then, as she prepares to compete in this year’s CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton.

Joining Huang is a rising group of young Canadian golfers, including Aphrodite Deng and Clairey Lin, who have also earned sponsor exemptions for the tournament. Deng, who recently won the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and defended her title in the Mizuho Americas Open, expressed her confidence in competing against the best in the world.

The success of these young talents has drawn attention to Canada’s golf scene, with Golf Canada’s NextGen coach Jeff MacDonald noting the unprecedented achievements of the emerging players. The CPKC Women’s Open will also feature top Canadian golfers like defending champion Brooke Henderson, Maude-Aimee Leblanc, and Savannah Grewal.

Huang, who chose to pursue a professional golf career early on, reflected on the challenges and rewards of her journey. With her father as her caddie, Huang continues to make strides in her golf career, recently being warmly welcomed by fans in Edmonton following her London victory.
