“Summer McIntosh Clinches Gold at Pan Pacific Championships”

Summer McIntosh claimed her first-ever gold medal at the Pan Pacific swimming competition by outperforming Australia’s Jenna Forrester in the women’s 400-meter individual medley in Irvine, California. McIntosh set a championship record time of four minutes and 28.01 seconds, with Forrester finishing nearly three seconds behind for the silver medal, and Agostina Hein of Argentina securing the bronze.

The Toronto athlete expressed her satisfaction with the race, mentioning that while she believed she could have done better, she was pleased to represent Canada and emerge victorious. McIntosh also participated in the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay, contributing to Canada’s bronze medal alongside teammates Mary-Sophie Harvey, Emma O’Croinin, and Brooklyn Douthwright.

In the men’s 400 IM event, Tristan Jankovics and Lorne Wigginton of Canada finished in 7th and 8th place, respectively. The event was won by Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsushita, who set a new championship record. Additionally, Taylor Ruck of Kelowna, B.C., secured a fifth-place finish in the women’s 100 free.

The competition saw various standout performances, including University of Calgary swimmer Alexanne Lepage achieving a personal best in the women’s 100 breaststroke. Canadian swimmers also showcased their talent in different events, with Ingrid Wilm, Oliver Dawson, and Javier Acevedo delivering notable performances.

The event concluded with impressive results for the Canadian contingent, highlighting their dedication and skill on the international swimming stage.
