“Stunning ‘Almost Blood Moon’ Eclipse Thrills Skywatchers”

Date:

Skywatchers had the opportunity to witness a partial lunar eclipse spanning the Americas, Europe, and Africa from Thursday evening into Friday. This eclipse, dubbed the “almost blood moon,” reached its peak just after midnight ET, with Earth’s shadow covering 96 percent of the moon’s visible surface, creating a near-total lunar eclipse. It is advised to enjoy this celestial spectacle as the next lunar eclipse is not expected until New Year’s Eve in 2028.

In Canada, the full moon was visible during the lunar eclipse phase in various locations. In Vancouver, the moon shone brightly in the night sky, captured in stunning images. The lunar eclipse was also observed above Osborne Village in Winnipeg and at the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in Toronto.

In other parts of the Americas, individuals took photos of the lunar eclipse from different vantage points. At the George Observatory in Needville, Texas, a person used a cellphone to capture the eclipse, while in Washington, D.C., the eclipse was seen behind the Washington Monument. The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans provided a golden backdrop for the partial lunar eclipse, and in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the moon was framed by the Mexican flag. In Salvador, Bahia state, Brazil, the moon rose behind a coconut palm tree during the eclipse.

Moving to Europe, the moon made a striking appearance during the partial lunar eclipse over Warsaw, Poland. People gathered at Parliament Hill in London to witness the eclipse, while in Lisbon, a plane was seen approaching for landing against the backdrop of the moon. The lunar eclipse was also visible in Goutz, France, painting the night sky in shades of red.

Overall, the partial lunar eclipse offered a mesmerizing celestial display for sky enthusiasts across different continents.
