The Prime Minister emphasized his unwavering position during a discussion on the US President’s recent trade deal remarks, suggesting Trump’s comments were aimed at influencing the UK’s position on the issue.
Trump has repeatedly targeted the UK following Starmer’s refusal to support US/Israeli military actions in the Middle East. In response to Trump’s latest outburst questioning the state of the US-UK special relationship, Starmer reiterated his commitment to not engage in the Iran war.
During PMQs, Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey raised concerns about Trump’s threat to revoke the trade deal due to the UK’s refusal to participate in the conflict. Davey urged canceling King Charles’s upcoming state visit to the US, citing Trump’s unpredictability and potential embarrassment to the monarchy.
Starmer maintained his stance on staying out of the Iran war, emphasizing that it does not align with the UK’s national interests. He expressed resilience against external pressures to alter his position and highlighted the significance of the US-UK relationship beyond individual officeholders.

When asked if the strained relationship would overshadow the upcoming Royal visit, Trump dismissed the notion, stating the King’s lack of involvement in the process. Despite the tensions, he emphasized his long-standing acquaintance with the King and downplayed any potential interference with the visit.
