Samsung Users Report Gmail App Screen Flickering

Date:

Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have recently encountered issues with their Gmail app, experiencing screen flickering while trying to read and send emails. Some users have reported instances where text disappears entirely, while others see blank white boxes instead of their email content.

Expressing frustration, Gmail enthusiasts have turned to social media platforms to voice their concerns. One user named Jeremiah vented on X, addressing Gmail directly and expressing dissatisfaction with the ongoing flickering problem on his Samsung Fold device, emphasizing the need for a prompt resolution.

Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing the challenges faced when attempting to read emails due to persistent screen flickering. Despite trying various troubleshooting steps like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, restarting the device, and updating all software, the issue remains unresolved for these users.

Google product expert Kimiya Kitani has identified the culprit behind the problem as the Android System WebView, a crucial component facilitating the display of web content within apps. Kitani highlighted that certain devices, especially Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent issues related to the Android System WebView, and Google is actively addressing the situation.

While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports suggest that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most affected gadgets. In the interim, Kitani has proposed a temporary workaround to alleviate the flickering problem by rotating the device, offering a practical solution until a permanent fix is released by Google.

For now, the recommended workaround involves opening emails in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode to rectify the screen display, and then switching back to portrait orientation. This simple fix is advised for users dealing with the Gmail app’s screen flickering issue until an official resolution is provided by Google.
