“Reform’s Deputy Leader Faces Tax Avoidance Allegations”

Date:

Reform’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, is facing scrutiny over allegations that his companies avoided paying nearly £100,000 in corporation tax, according to Labour. Party chair Anna Turley has called for an urgent explanation from Nigel Farage, the head of Reform, regarding Tice’s continued role as second-in-command.

Turley stated, “Richard Tice’s credibility has been severely damaged, and Nigel Farage must clarify why he is retaining Tice as Deputy Leader.” She emphasized the seriousness of the situation, pointing out that Tice had previously demanded resignations over smaller tax mistakes.

In response to the accusations, Tice, who also serves as the business spokesperson for the right-wing party, expressed willingness to rectify any discrepancies and settle any outstanding amounts if necessary.

It was reported by The Sunday Times that Tice operated four shell companies that allegedly did not pay taxes on profits between 2020 and 2022. These companies were reportedly established solely to receive dividends from Tice’s property investment firm and transfer funds to their parent company.

Despite the controversy, Robert Jenrick, a former Conservative minister who switched allegiance to Reform, defended Tice. Jenrick highlighted Tice’s successful business career, job creation, and tax contributions, stating that Tice had followed professional tax advice and believed he had fulfilled his tax obligations.

The Liberal Democrats have called for HMRC to investigate the allegations promptly. However, Jenrick indicated that HMRC has not initiated an investigation, dismissing the claims as unsubstantiated.

In a statement, Tice defended his track record, citing his extensive business experience, job creation, and tax compliance. He reiterated his commitment to rectifying any errors and paying owed amounts promptly. Tice also criticized the ongoing attempts to tarnish his reputation, attributing it to discouraging other successful business figures from entering politics.

Tice emphasized that he remains focused on serving his constituents and campaigning for local elections, rather than solely pursuing financial gains.
