One of Nigel Farage’s Reform party candidates promoted a Covid conspiracy theory and criticized the late Queen as a “fraud” who should be ousted. Farage had previously expressed admiration for Queen Elizabeth II, calling her the most respected individual globally. However, Reform’s candidate Emma Clatworthy, contesting in south Wales, made derogatory remarks about the Queen, questioning her nationality and alleging her involvement in a purported cult leader’s activities.
Reform has faced controversy in Wales, with a candidate resigning recently after a photo surfaced showing him making a Nazi salute. Clatworthy’s posts on Telegram, uncovered by Hope Not Hate (HNH), suggested a distrust of the government and advocated for dismantling the entire system, including the monarchy. She also propagated misinformation about viruses, vaccines, and pharmaceutical companies, drawing criticism for her dangerous conspiracy theories.
Clatworthy, who claims to have a background in integrative health and functional medicine, defended her past statements as part of exploring diverse viewpoints online. She emphasized her commitment to serving the community positively as a political candidate. Reform UK declined to provide a response to the situation.
Notably, Clatworthy’s controversial remarks and conspiracy theories have raised concerns, with HNH’s Director of Research highlighting her history of spreading dangerous ideas online. Clatworthy mentioned that her contentious comments were made during a period of personal exploration, indicating a conscious decision to distance herself from such discussions. She aims to focus on practical solutions that benefit society as a political candidate.
