Emma Raducanu showcased her mental clarity during an impressive performance in the first round of the LTA’s HSBC Championships. The 2021 US Open champion swiftly defeated qualifier Anna Blinkova 6-0 6-3 at Queen’s in just an hour, overcoming a brief rain delay.
Raducanu, back in form since her last win at the Indian Wells Open in March, expressed satisfaction with her gameplay, emphasizing a sense of freedom and clear thinking on the court. She credited the supportive atmosphere for her natural and effective performance.
Reunited with coach Andrew Richardson, who guided her to victory at Flushing Meadows, Raducanu dominated the match by quickly securing a 3-0 lead after breaking Blinkova. Despite the rain interruption, she continued her strong play, showcasing her powerful forehand and winning the first set decisively.
In the second set, Raducanu displayed her skills with a remarkable cross-court backhand winner. Although Blinkova briefly fought back to level the score at 3-3, Raducanu regained control, winning the final three games to secure the match with a stylish backhand winner.
Expressing her love for playing on grass and the joy of competing in front of fans, Raducanu expressed pride in her performance. She is set to face Sorana Cîrstea in the next round.
