Olympic champ Mo Farah moves family to Qatar

Date:

Sir Mo Farah has made a permanent move with his family from the UK to Qatar, despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Farah, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, has resided in Doha with his family since 2024 and has now officially changed his residential status.

The 43-year-old, along with his wife Tania and their four children – stepdaughter Rihanna, twin daughters Aisha and Amani, and son Hussein, relocated to the capital city of Qatar after his retirement from professional running.

According to reports from The Sun, Farah has transitioned his residency from the UK to Qatar for his company, which holds assets worth £3.9 million and paid £375,000 in tax and VAT in 2023. By shifting his residency to Qatar, the renowned athlete will be exempt from paying taxes.

This move comes amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. Qatar has been impacted by the conflict, with Iran targeting the country’s energy facilities using drones.

Despite the turmoil in the region, Farah and his family have decided to make Qatar their permanent home. The family also owns a house in Weybridge, Surrey, in the UK, and has experienced the tensions of war firsthand during previous conflicts between the US and Iran.

Farah, who originally hails from Somalia and spent seven years in Oregon during his athletics career, explained that the decision to move to Qatar was driven by a desire for his children to grow up away from the spotlight of celebrity public life.

In an interview with The National, Farah expressed his contentment with the move, stating that spending quality time with his family was always a priority for him post-retirement. He emphasized the importance of supporting his children’s aspirations and providing them with a safe and enjoyable environment to thrive.

By relocating to Qatar, Farah aims to strike a balance between work and family life, enjoying the ease of spending time with his loved ones while still being able to fulfill his professional obligations remotely.
