“Measles Alert at Newark Airport”

Date:

Passengers at a bustling airport have received a caution about potential exposure to measles.

Health authorities in New Jersey have alerted the public that an individual contracted the highly contagious measles infection after traveling abroad and passing through Newark Liberty International Airport.

According to CBS News, officials stated that persons present at Terminal B of Newark Liberty Airport between 5:30 am and 9 am on April 14 might have been exposed to measles.

Additionally, a potential exposure warning was issued for the pediatric emergency department at Hackensack University Medical Center on April 18.

Common symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, sneezing, red and watery eyes, and a rash.

Health officials advised that symptoms could manifest as late as May 11 for those exposed to the virus.

As of now, no related cases have been reported.

Measles can spread through the air or contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person, with the virus lingering in the air for up to two hours post-exposure.

The MMR vaccine is considered the most effective preventive measure against measles and its associated complications.

In a separate development, UK parents are being urged to verify their children’s vaccination records due to the ongoing measles outbreak across the country, with numerous cases recorded and concerns of a resurgence.

Earlier this month, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a cautionary advisory to families, emphasizing the importance of recognizing symptoms and ensuring proper immunization amidst declining vaccination rates.

Recent data indicates that England has confirmed approximately 235 cases of measles in the initial weeks of 2026, with infections reported across all regions.
