A man is set to face trial following allegations of involvement in the death of a 21-year-old individual back in 2017. The accused has been formally charged with murder in connection to the tragic passing of Hayley McClenahan-Ernst in Kingswood, located in western Sydney, Australia. Notably, Hayley was pregnant at the time of the incident, adding further gravity to the case.
The authorities responded to a distress call at a residence around 12:15 am on Sunday, May 21, 2017, where they discovered Hayley in an unresponsive state. Despite efforts by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Initially, a 21-year-old man known to Hayley faced charges related to breaching a court order but had already been processed through the legal system.
However, a significant breakthrough occurred in the investigation when detectives apprehended a 30-year-old individual at a property in Bucca, situated north of Coffs Harbour, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Video footage released by NSW Police depicted the tattooed suspect being escorted into a police vehicle in handcuffs. Subsequently, he was taken into custody at Coffs Harbour Police Station and formally charged with murder. The accused is scheduled to appear before Bail Division – Court One later in the day.
The circumstances surrounding Hayley’s untimely demise raised suspicion, prompting extensive inquiries since the incident in 2017. In 2025, a coronial inquiry was halted, leading to the matter being transferred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. By October 2025, detectives from Nepean Police Command revisited the case, continuing their investigative efforts diligently.
After diligent scrutiny and a public plea for information, the dedicated detectives of the strike force successfully arrested the 30-year-old suspect nearly nine years following Hayley’s tragic death.
