Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of Kensington Gardens while law enforcement looks into a video involving “drones carrying radioactive materials.”
The well-liked park, located near Kensington Palace and Hyde Park, has been closed to visitors as confirmed by The Royal Parks on Friday morning.
Metropolitan Police mentioned they are examining several discarded items following allegations from a group that claimed to have used two drones to target the Israeli embassy with hazardous materials.
Witnesses observed a forensics team near the park’s bandstand in the middle of the area.
The investigation is ongoing, with divers from the Metropolitan Police’s specialized search team now on-site in Kensington Gardens, central London. The park remains cordoned off as authorities explore potential links to the nearby Israeli embassy.
Forensic officers and investigators were seen gathered in the park, with a significant police presence, including a mobile unit from the Metropolitan Police’s chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear team.
Furthermore, a police van from the force’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection group was spotted in the area, as well as personnel from the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service’s hazardous area response team.
The Israeli embassy has reassured the public that it was not attacked, and staff members are safe. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the authenticity of the video and the items found in the park.
The Metropolitan Police is actively working on the case and has urged people to avoid the area for safety reasons. The Royal Parks charity has also requested the public’s cooperation in staying away from Kensington Gardens during the investigation.
