An elderly woman in her 70s passed away following a dog attack involving two “rottweiler-type” dogs in Wolverhampton. Emergency services responded to Willis Pearson Avenue in Bilston, where the woman was injured by the dogs, which are not of a banned breed.
The woman, identified as Carol Hall by neighbors, was fatally attacked in her home. This incident marked the third recent fatality in the UK due to dog attacks. The dogs responsible for the attack were euthanized after displaying continued aggression towards emergency responders.
A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog that caused the fatal injuries. He sustained hand injuries and was taken to the hospital. Witnesses reported hearing the victim’s daughter screaming about the tragic incident.
Local residents described the dogs as uncontrollable, noting their tendency to pull their owner along the street. The authorities are conducting further investigations into the dogs involved in the incident. The police are still in the early stages of the inquiry, trying to ascertain the details of the attack that occurred late on a Wednesday night.
Neighbors mentioned blood inside the victim’s house, with windows boarded up as a result. Sam Wright, a local resident, expressed concern over the victim’s inability to defend herself against the large dogs. Additional witnesses recounted encounters with the aggressive dogs in the past.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service and police have maintained a presence at the scene for ongoing investigations. The ambulance service confirmed responding to the incident, where they found the woman deceased and a man with non-serious injuries, who was taken to the hospital for further care.
This tragic event follows two other recent dog attacks in the UK, including the death of a three-month-old infant in North Yorkshire and a 19-year-old woman in Essex. Law enforcement and emergency services continue to investigate these incidents to ensure public safety.
