A significant rescue mission was initiated today following a boat catching fire and subsequently sinking in a popular coastal area. The Coast Guard was alerted to the blaze on the 11-meter pleasure craft located a mile-and-a-half off the coast of Dun Laoghaire before 4pm on Saturday, April 18, leading to dramatic scenes. The Dun Laoghaire RNLI lifeboat swiftly arrived at the location and successfully evacuated the four adults on board, transporting them safely to shore. Alongside various emergency responders like Gardai, the Dun Laoghaire All Weather Lifeboat, Dublin Port tug, and Dublin Fire Brigade, efforts were made to control the fire, which was extinguished by shortly after 5pm, resulting in the vessel sinking. According to a Department of Transport spokesperson speaking to Dublin Live, the incident unfolded when the pleasure craft with four adults onboard reported the fire to the Coast Guard at approximately 15:45. The rescue operation was coordinated efficiently, with the Dun Laoghaire RNLI team evacuating the individuals to be assessed at the RNLI station, where they were met by healthcare and firefighting personnel. Monitoring of the situation continued, leading to the confirmation that the fire had been put out by around 17:15, following which the boat submerged.
