“Canada Adjusts Tariff List, Targets U.S. Copper and Charcoal”

Date:

The Canadian government has adjusted its list of counter-tariffs, removing seafood and fish products while adding copper wire and charcoal to uphold equal measures against the U.S. The decision to eliminate seafood from the list was made following industry feedback, as confirmed by Finance Canada. Ottawa’s response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs involves increasing duties on American steel and aluminum products to 50% and imposing a 25% rate on various seafood items. Additionally, copper wire, charcoal, plaster sheets, tiles, and printed photographs will face a 50% tariff when the countermeasures take effect on September 8. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne emphasized that the decision was made in Canada’s best interests after listening to Canadians, without directly addressing the message it conveys to the White House.
